Attendance
Reporting Absences, Late Arrivals, and Early Releases:
- Call our 24-hour automated Attendance Line: 303-387-1002
- Alternatively, call the main switchboard: 303-387-1000 ext. 1
Important Notes:
- Parents/Guardians ONLY may call the attendance line. Students are not permitted to call themselves in.
- Excused absences require a parent/guardian call within 48 hours of the absence.
Attendance Line Options (303-387-1002):
- Option 1: Late Arrival
- Option 2: Early Release (Please provide at least one hour's notice for pass preparation.)
- Option 3: All Day Absence
Attendance Procedures:
- Sign-Out: Students must sign out in the office before leaving campus for any class time missed. This includes appointments during lunch or off-hours.
- Excused Absences: Absences will not be excused without communication from a parent/guardian.
- Early Release During Class: A pass to sign out will be provided to the student.
- Leaving During Non-Class Time: Students leaving during passing periods, lunch, or off-hours still need to sign out but will not receive a pass.
- Late Arrival Sign-In: Students arriving during a class period must sign in at the office to receive a pass to class. Sign-in is not required for arrivals between classes, during lunch, or off-hours.
- Illness During School: Students feeling ill must go to the health room in the North or South Office. Parents/guardians will be contacted, and students can be signed out from there if recommended.
Extended Absences (3+ Days):
- For absences longer than two days (excluding emergencies or medical reasons), students are responsible for all missed work.
- An Extended Absence Form [en Español] is required for absences of 3 or more days and must be completed after communicating with teachers prior to the absence. This form will be reviewed by an administrator for the absence to be excused.
- Paper copies of the Extended Absence Form are available in the North and South offices for teacher signatures.
- For medical absences (illness, surgery, etc.), please email a doctor's note with the reason and return date to rbauman@dcsdk12.org, in addition to completing the Extended Absence Form.
- While advance notice for medical absences may not always be possible, we encourage prompt communication with teachers, counselors, or administrators.
Consistent Attendance:
Consistent attendance is crucial for academic success. Absences create stress for students needing to complete make-up work while keeping up with current assignments. Please prioritize having your child in school for all classes unless unavoidable. Consider the impact of late arrivals and early departures on classroom learning. Our goal is to minimize disruptions to maximize learning time for all students.
