2021 DCHS Apple Award Nominees

_____________________________________________________________________
It is our honor to share that, having received nominations from our community and then selection by our faculty and staff, the following certified and classified team members will be representing Douglas County High School as our official 2021 Apple Award Representatives:

Certified: KEN BORGSMILLER, English Teacher

Classified: RYAN ORTT, ITS Technician I

Both Ken and Ryan add tremendous value to our building and it is clear in everything that they do that they are invested in the success, not only of our students and their colleagues, but our whole organization.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the DCSD Apple Awards, we hope the following information will be helpful to you:

The Foundation for Douglas County Schools received over 2,550 nominations for this year's Apple Awards from all over the district. DCHS received a record number of nominations. Please go to the Foundation's website, foundationdcs.org/nominations, and check out our school's testimonials.
What are the Apple Awards?
Each year, The Foundation for Douglas County Schools honors exceptional educators and staff who inspire a love of learning in students and are trailblazing extraordinary innovation in our schools.

How does the Apple Awards process work?
In November and December, students, families, colleagues, co-workers and others in the DCSD community are invited to submit testimonials supporting their nomination of an educator or staff member.  These nominations are then sent to the appropriate principal or department head to review in January. Those Nominees selected are called Representatives.

What happens once the representatives are chosen by a school?
Once a school has selected their representative(s), the staff are notifed. All representatives are invited to attend the Apple Awards celebration in the spring. The Foundation will send an email to the representatives with a written evaluation form that they may submit to us to be considered to be chosen as an Apple Awards Finalist. Apple Awards Winners are chosen from the Apple Awards Finalists by a committee through the Foundation. There are a total of 5 Apple Awards Winners chosen - one in each of the following categories: Classified, Department, Elementary Education, Secondary Education and Principal. Winners are announced at the live Apple Awards celebration.

How will the celebration look this year?
We are looking forward to this year's Apple Awards celebration, and it will take place virtually in early April. The exact date and time will be finalized later this month. It will be a wonderful and fun opportunity to honor all DCSD Apple Awards Representatives and enjoy a great evening together.

The same week as the Apple Awards celebration, DCHS will be honoring every certified and classified staff member that received a nomination from a community member. They will receive a keepsake copy of their testimonial. We are very proud of all our nominees!

Thank you for your part in this celebration of educators in 2021.
